Project’s feasibility and credibility are subject to various artistic and heritage constraints. Such choice is supported by:

Placing a new instrument, notably in a listed and protected building classé Monument Historique requires lengthy administrative green-lights. Keeping the case means no visual change in the Cathedral, hence less regulatory requirements needed.

Finding an acceptable place in Nancy, close to where the instrument was located, as a link to its past.

Finding a place where the instrument is here to stay and available to the next generations.

Finding a place with high standards acoustics and volume, and also of an architectural interest, publicly accessible.

Making sure the organ will be played and heard for services, and for artistic, cultural and educational purposes alike.
The choice to reconstruct this organ in Nancy Cathedral obeys this criteria as the only possible site. Its presence will:

Constitute a rare, coherent instrumental match between the great organ and the choir organ.

Promote an artistic dynamic of high quality around it (concerts, gatherings, lessons, visits, recordings...) particular to this exceptional ensemble.

Add this organ to Nancy’s existing remarkable organ scene, of which many are comparable romantic and symphonic instruments from the 19th century.

And so reinforce Nancy’s organ reputation as home to the last authentic Cavaillé-Coll.
